Announces Candidacy For Appellate Court

Justice Thomas Appleton has
announces his candidacy for the vacancy on
the Fourth District Appellate Court created
by the retirement of Justice Robert W. Cook.
The election will be held in 2010.
Appleton, a resident of Springfield, was
assigned to duties as a justice of the
appellate court by Illinois Supreme Court
Justice Rita Garman in December 2001 and has
served as a justice of the appellate court
since then. Appleton was elected as a
circuit court judge for the Seventh Judicial
Circuit in 1992. He will be running in the
Republican primary.
Appleton has served as a member of the
Illinois Judicial Conference and was
appointed by the supreme court as co-chair
of the court’s Special Committee on Rule 23,
which dealt with an administrative order
that placed restrictions on appellate
courts. He twice has been selected to serve
on the faculty for the Illinois Judicial
Education Conference.
